I am a proud and very happy mac user. 2 years ago, I decided to get a new laptop and hand down my old bulky one to my little sister. That’s how my stories of new stuff always start ^^! Oh the joy of having a younger sibling. Anyway, back to the point. I was going to get me a Dell XPS
. But then, my older sister, who was and still is a happy and proud mac user suggested that I get a MacBook. My dad, who is a big fan of practicality preferred good old PC. What I feared most was not having as much program & application options. Then came the day when I got my MacBook! And boy was I happy.
Because of my lovely MacBook, I’ve come across some of the most amazing applications! I will mention some of my favorites here. Don’t fear PC users.. there’s probably something for you too ^^
aMSN
MSN for mac has been a big downer
it lacks lots of things that the normal msn has such as voice chat, nudges, and winks. There is aMSN. I don’t enjoy using it. But it does the job.. and it has lots of skins you can choose from.
Audio hijack & soundflowerbed
One thing I do sometimes is record the sound coming out of the speakers (it has a name, but I forgot what). On PC, this was simply done by using sound recorder and adjusting the input. On mac, I couldn’t find a way to get this done. After some googling, I found really good alternatives. There is Soundflowerbed. This is really awesome. It let’s you choose it as an input and output from the sound preferences. And by using simple tools to record, such as Audacity, all you need to do is click the round red button.
Another application is audio hijack. As the name implies, it hijacks the audio. It’s an all in one application. What’s really cool about it is that you can choose which specific application you want to record the sound from. It will record only that sound, even when there are other sounds coming out. What’s not so cool is you have to open that application (the one you’re recording from) after opening audio hijack or else it will ask you to restart it.
NOTE: ooh.. seems like it’s been upgraded since the last time I’ve used it =p Radioshift is also awesome!
iSquint
This one I love and cannot live without!
With iSquint, you can easily convert your videos for your iPod. Just drag in the specified files and voila! a ready .mp4 for you to import into your device.
Jing
If you’re into screen casting and would like a nice free program for that, this one is pretty nifty. It has all the basics plus a little more. =)
Picturesque
Picturesque is a nice easy way out for adding that 2.0 touch to your photos. It includes things like reflections, borders, and of course, cropping. Very nice UI and very easy to use. =)
Skitch
I really love skitch! It’s really awesome! If I want to host a photo online really quickly, I’ll go to skitch. I’ve said skitch 3 times now! and that was four. XP It’s basically like paint.. just A LOT more! You can drag in photos, edit them, paint, add text. Then it’ll ask you if you want to post it to the web. Of course you need to make an account for that.. but it’s well worth it! After posting it, you can control settings such as making them private or public. It will give you a unique URL for each post for easy sharing.
Tweetie
Haha! I didn’t even use this yet. But it’s just because I don’t have leopard yet.. or snow leopard xD but when I do get the new OS X, I will definitely be using Tweetie!
These were some of my favorites. If you liked this post.. maybe I’ll make a part 2
Don’t you just love apps?
